You may wonder why we can, yes there is a scientific explanation for this. White light contains all the seven colours. We see colour because they are reflected by the object. For example, lets take leaves. In the seven rainbow colours VIBGYOR the leaf absorbs the 6 colours except of the green and hence we are able to see the green colour of leave.
The same way as white light is the base and black is the opposite to it it makes it visible on every colour. Like the Ying and Yang.
