Ever felt bad when you yawned in class and the
teacher took strict notice of it?? Don’t be. There have been a lot of myth
about why we yawn, but a recent study shows us we yawn to REDUCE THE
TEMPERATURE OF THE BRAIN.
Sleep cycles, cortical arousal (It kinda determines if you are an
introvert or an extrovert. As always more the merrier, or more arousal, more
you like to party and do crazy stuff) and stress, mess up the brain by
fluctuating its temperature.
According to the study conducted by psychologists at the State
University of New York, Yawning reduces the brain temperature, improves
cortical arousal and also the efficiency of the brain (and I always thought otherwise!!).
This was also proved by the University of Vienna. They conducted the
experiment in 2 different scenarios. They measured the yawning frequencies in
the pedestrians of Vienna’s streets and compared it with the results of a
similar study conducted in the arid climate of Arizona. Results showed that,
people of Vienna yawned more in summer than in winter, while the Arizonians
yawned more in winter than in summer.
So, the next time your teacher points out you yawning, ask her to
turn on an AC!!!
