Any human child, a boy or a girl, is expected to cry for the first minute of his/her lifetime! Because this crying in the first minute is necessary for the child to survive!

The child stays in its mother's uterus for almost 10 months! and it has been breathing only through the umbilical cord. The Umbilical cord only provides fresh oxygen and removes carbon-di-oxide from their blood stream. So, once the child is out of the mother's womb, it has to breathe on its own. But the child cannot start breathing just like that. First, it has to remove the amniotic fluid and all the secretions. The child tries to remove the clutter from their lungs and nose by crying. Sometimes the new-born baby might not cry. Earlier, doctors used many rough&tough stimulation to make the baby cry, which might result in a very dangerous situation for the child. But now, realizing that, doctors go in for soft stimulation like rubbing on the back, and massaging the soles of the feet!!
